Immersion oil

Immersion oil, packing in 100ml plastic used as a necessary reagent
in light microscopy of biological preparations at objective magnifications over 40.
Immersion oil placed between the objective and the preparation has a refractive index
equal to that of glass. Therefore , light rays deflected by the smallest details of the object
are not scattered when leaving the preparation, but enter the objective without loss of refraction.
